Techjet-X2®

The Techjet-X2® series is the latest in our evolution of innovative products to create a precision, easy-to-operate, safe and highly reliable Waterjet Cutting Machine. The Techjet-X2® is built to the highest tolerances and incorporates Linear Scale Feedback to ensure the highest accuracy of motion in the industry. By mapping the entire cutting area with a laser-calibrated digital encoder, the motion system can deliver positional accuracy of 0.0005” (0.01mm) and high cutting speeds of up to 1000 ipm or 25m/min.

Techjet-X2® Features:

Mechanical
The drive system is a robust and unique design providing super-fast cutting speeds and traverse speeds of almost 1000 inches per minute, with high acceleration and deceleration rates, while capable of maintaining high tolerances

  • Each machine is calibrated using a laser interferometer
  • Fully enclosed bellows that are double stitched and vulcanized
  • Highest quality German made, machine grade linear bearings
  • Adjustable water height control for submerged cutting
  • Crash sensing breakaway head
  • Power "Z" axis with convenient controls at the cutting head
  • Guards are made of stainless steel
  • Stainless steel apron completely covers the loading area
  • High pressure components
  • Techjet-X2® only uses KMT (formerly Ingersoll-Rand) intensifiers
  • Fitted as standard with the KMT Autoline Abrasive Cutting Head

SOFTWARE - Softec™ Waterjet Software
Every Techjet-X2® comes standard with SOFTEC Water Jet Software. At the "Heart" of Softec is Tru-Cut Technology, a highly sophisticated algorithms database that determines the optimum cutting speeds and machine ramping characteristics. Once you select the material to be cut, it's thickness and surface finish required, the computer will take care of the rest, ensuring the minimum cutting time for any given part.
The Algorithms database was developed with the benefit of over 30 years of waterjet cutting experience from KMT. Through their thorough understanding of the effects of Ultra High Water Pressure, abrasive types and volume, cutting head set ups, corner geometry and the materials to be cut, they can determine the optimum ramping characteristics for any given part.

Softec™ software runs on the very latest in controller technology, the AT2010. Developed by ANCA, one of the pioneers in servo control technology, and a leader in the very demanding “CNC Tool and Cutter Grinder” market, the AT2010 delivers maximum acceleration with ultra high speed feedback to ensure minimum processing time with maximum accuracy and best surface finish. It also incorporates “patented” technology such as the MPG wheel which allows the operator to take the machine along the cutting path, forwards or backwards to any point, simply by winding the hand wheel.

KMT cutting head Cutting Head
Techni Waterjet uses the best cutting head available on all of our machines. From KMT (formerly Ingersoll-Rand), this head features tool-free changing of nozzles and diamond orifices. The tool is also controlled by our Z-axis drive which quickly raises prior to movement thereby reducing the chances of head collisions with part tip-ups.

Why Waterjet? How Does It Work? What Are The Benefits?

The process of waterjet cutting is actually pretty simple. Water is pressurized to 60,000 psi by hydraulic intensification, and then forced through a small orifice in the cutting head. Inside a mixing tube, abrasive is mixed with the high pressure water, creating an abrasive waterjet stream that exits the nozzle at about 1.5 times the speed of sound. Through a combination of micro-erosion (grinding) and a shear yielding of the material a narrow section of material (called the kerf) is removed all the way through the thickness.

What can be cut? Virtually any material can be cut with abrasive waterjet cutting. Metal of all types, stainless steel, aluminum; composite materials; gaskets, foam, soft materials; stone, marble tile; large parts cutting; large volume parts; and complex contours.

Benefits of Waterjet Cutting
• More versatile than other processes – Wide range of materials
Cuts most materials, including metals, plastics, stone, glass, foam, ceramics. Because there is no heat and no work induced stress incurred in the cutting process, almost any material is suitable for waterjet cutting.
• Thinnest sheet to over 6 inches thick
Allows stacking of materials, and cuts a variety of thicknesses, adding productivity to the cutting process
• Provides a cleaner edge with minimal post cutting processes
The non invasive cutting process generates a high quality finish looks like a fine sandblasted finish on most materials, and eliminates a majority of post process finishing.
• Fits well with other types of material processing
WaterJet, either abrasive or straight water, can be used as a partner for other processes in fabrication and machining. It even makes an excellent mate for lasers, providing superior quality on aluminum and high finish materials, as well as extending the thickness range on conventional materials such as stainless steel.
• Environmentally safe and clean
There are no chemicals, gases or noxious liquids used in the cutting process. Abrasive cutting uses garnet (a high grade sand) as the abrasive, resulting in a very clean process that is preferable to other methods of cutting in terms of environmental impact and resulting disposal of by products and waste water.
